Hello,
My name is Federica Del Proposto. I’m a Comics Artist and an Architect. …Kind of a double life.
But my consolation is that I’m not alone.
I’m one of those people who during their career have felt the desire to explore the connection between Comics and Design.
I mean, to really try to unite them, and not only to draw a baloon on a table.
If it’s Design, it must be a three-dimensional object
But a Comic is a series of sequentials bi-dimensionals images…
…So, a three-dimensional image, maybe
With a function, because it must be used…
And the function for a Comic is to give emotions to people who “read” it.
So a three-dimensional image that can be used and in the meantime it gives emotions to people who “read” it.
The aim of Desall’s Contest “Epidemic Happiness” was “Street furniture, childlike behaviour and diffusion of the Epidemic Happiness”. Perfect to explore the “weird connection”!
So I decided to design GAIA! LAPANCHINA.
“GAIA!” means “HAPPY!” in italian, referred to females.
She is female, and she is a three-dimensional image, or better a three-dimensional character, that can be used (for sitting) and can be readed giving you an emotion (happiness).
She want to share her happiness with you, wile you use her for sitting.
The concept is very simple. But simplicity is the right way to show the “weird connection”’s process.
I’ve put on her only a particular detail: her smile is not so wide.
Because she is a Design.. more stylish than a Comics.
GAIA! Is my first Product Design.
Until now I wasn’t able to unite my Comics Artist’s life with my Architect’s life. I think it’s a very interesting field to explore, and I will continue.
I’d like to greet you with some others GAIA!’s friends:
I love: Postpunk, Females writers, Ostalgie, Asian Dramas and Brutalist Architecture. I draw, I eat meatballs, I remove hair.”
