Meet the latest prototype born in DesallĀ š Bormioli Pharma has just unveiled a new prototype entirely developed by Desall and its community!
At the beginning of February, Bormioli Pharma launched theĀ OptiMist prototype,Ā a smart nebulizer for liquid ophthalmic drugs that revolutionizes the traditional way of administering eye drops.
Ophthalmic medicines are among the most difficult to be administered. At least 50% of patients report difficulties in self-administering topical eye medications, especially when it comes to aiming and squeezing the bottle correctly. Especially for people with disabilities, the elderly or anyone who is unfamiliar with these types of medicine, it is easy to make mistakes, getting drops out of the eye with related drug waste (leading to therapy inefficacy and economic loss for the patient). The device seeks to counter these issues with a new administration method, ergonomic design and the integration of IoT functionalities.Ā The soft applicator that the patient appliesĀ around the eye makes this nebulizer really comfortable to use. The drug efficacy is improved through an e-controlled dosage and, thanks to the smart notifications which appear on the nebulizer, therapy management is simplified, especially for the elderly and everyone who suffers from memory impairment difficulties, but also the caregivers who are often tired and overwhelmed by their work.
The OptiMist concept was contributed by Colombian designer Juan Pablo Gomez during one of the many open calls available to creatives and innovators on the Desall platform. During the development phase, our in-house team worked on Juan Pablo’s concept optimizing the original 3D files, engineering the mechanical, electronic, and software components, designing the UI/UX, and developing the App. The result of this collaborative effort is a working prototype of OptiMist, the same one that Bormioli Pharma unveiled this February at Pharmapack Europe 2023 in Paris, one of the most important events in the pharmaceutical industry.
