We’re back. We’ve just made our way back to our office in Italy after a hectic week in China that turned out to be so rich in meetings, opportunities and achievements.
As you all know, we headed to Shenzhen in relation to the SZIDF 2018 Gadget Design Award we launched in partnership with the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association on our platform. We wanted this partnership and put our trust on this project since our first contact with SZIDF back in 2015. In fact, we had immediately realised that it could represent a great partner to explore new market opportunities and approach an ever increasing audience active in the design industry. Indeed, the so-called “Silicon Valley of hardware” was calling.
Before reaching the Shenzhen Exhibition Center for the setup of our stand, our CEO Davide Scomparin was invited as part of an international jury at the 2nd JGB International Design Award organised by Jingubang and aimed at scouting the best talents from mainland China.
The next day, on Nov 4th, we reached the fair and got ready for the opening of the SZIDF 2018 finalising the setup of our booth, shared with the winner of our contest, Davide Anzalone (read the story). Nov 5th was the long awaited day, the first day of the fair and the night of the official awarding ceremony. The international jury called Davide Anzalone on stage to receive the SZIDF 2018 Gadget Design Award in front of a crowded hall of a cheering audience. Definitely a great achievement for his career and a great acknowledgment for our Community as a whole!
In those days, we could really smell the excitement of a young and fervent generation of designers that we are sure will heed the call of both Chinese and international companies scouting for new talents in this rich and fast-growing market. Design courses are popping in every corner, new schools and departments are being founded all over the country. Surely, industrial design is but one of the many industries that are benefitting from this growing economy. We are sure China can represent a very interesting opportunity for the new generation of designers. As for us, we are just but thankful for this amazing opportunity.
