We were so pleased to hear the enthusiasm and the excitement of Rico on his return from Guangzhou to his home in Indonesia. The experience at the VTC was simply amazing. Among else, Rico had the chance to meet the Project Manager of this project, Mr. Massimo, and other people of Vibram that helped him turn his Orimobi into a real product.
On his first day at VTC, on March 19th, Rico was taken on a tour to the facility where he met the global manager of Vibram, Mr. Coletto, Mr. Massimo, Vibram University Coordinator & Innovation System Advisor, and other managers of the company.
During the following day, he received an introduction to the history of Vibram and was shown the great care the company takes while testing and developing its products, including some of their best-sellers. In the afternoon – right inside the VTC Development office – he was invited to show the prototype he had prepared for the occasion and had the chance to compare his prototype with the one realised at the VTC by the company technicians. No better way to end that evening than a home-cooked pasta prepared by Mr. Coletto, that Rico simply loved.
On March 21st discussion moved on to the next steps towards production, with Mr. Adi – manager of VTC – introducing Rico the team that would be in charge of the whole prototyping process and of getting contact with the various suppliers.
The next day, March 22nd, Rico and Mr. Massimo discussed how to make his product relate even more to the Vibram brand, working on the lower part of the bag and on some details. So suddenly came the last day at VTC, March 23rd, with the final briefings to define the next steps till production and their farewell.
Rico was very happy of this whole experience and we were so glad that Desall managed to provide such a great opportunity for him with such a great company. Definitely Vibram could give him some important know-how and expertise at a very advanced stage and Rico’s expectations couldn’t be fulfilled more.
Joining Desall gave me new optimism in design, the contest opens the possibility to make collaboration between designers all over the world with sponsors. Winning the luxury rubber contest sponsored by Vibram is a marvellous experience for me that gave me the chance to visit the Vibram Technological Center (VTC) in Guangzhou and witness how they produce some good product through a proper process focusing on problem solving inspired by their spirit “tested where it matters”.
