fabbian-banner-blog

Here’s a winner announcement many of you were awaiting with great interest and expectations. After a long and very difficult evaluation of all proposals, given the overall high quality of the entries, Fabbian has finally decided which one deserved the first award, out of the 479 entries submitted by 366 creative minds from 40 different countries.

It was such a great success, that four extra projects have received a Special Mention!

Let’s meet the winner!

The Winner

Tripla

What makes this project stand out is the very natural evolution of both Cubetto and Beluga. From a cube, to a sphere… to a triple. This unique design creates a totally new concept of shape, which is taken to an unprecedented level.
The shape proposed allows numerous installation possibilities in very neat and dynamic arrangements, never casual.
The possibility to choose glass in various finishes and textures and to position and direct the light beam makes the lamp suitable in a host of different settings, both in the home and in public spaces. – Ettore Fabbian

The surface can be traced back to three basic elements, the circle, the square and the triangle, and the space to volumetric elements that flow from it: sphere, cube and pyramid. The tetrahedral shape of Tripla proposes itself as completion to the Fabbian collection of lamps Beluga andCubetto. Solid, at the same time soft, it dresses the light with versatility, elegance and modularity, allowing the development of different applications (hanging, wall, ceiling, floor and table).

Metal structure in matt and polished chromium plated metal, diffuser in lead crystal glass, white or black gloss painted, sand blasted inside, polished chromium plated metal.
LED light.
Fixed or adjustable diffusers.
Size:
Small (10,7×10,7cm H8,7cm)
Medium (21,4×21,4cm H17,4cm)
Large (42,8×42,8cm H34,8cm)

And here’s…

The Special Mentions

ROUTE

This project deserves a special mention because it exudes a strong magical charm with the patterns of light created by the positioning of the light sources both inside and outside the glass.
The fact of having an external light source that illuminates the glass from the outside, reverses the generally established idea that the light source has to be inside the diffuser; this ground-breaking idea is a strong point not to be overlooked. – Ettore Fabbian

Special-mention-1_ROUTE_500x250
The concept of the lamp Route lies in its name: a path, a line from the roots (root and route have a similar sound), the primitive forms of Beluga and Cubetto to create, however, a new object, a new design that looks to the future, innovation and new technologies.
Because, along our way, we must never lose our roots.

Following clean lines, Route is mainly composed of two elements: a cube and a sphere, primitive forms from which lamps Beluga and Cubetto are originated. These two elements, contrasting to shape and materiality (steel / blown glass), are connected by a thin steel tube, in which the electric cable passes up to the LED, placed inside the sphere. The tube is composed of modular elements, that allow to choose the effective height of the lamp. In the cube, which maintains the stability of the lamp, is also introduced an additional LED light point.
Route can be made in variations in floor, pendant, table or wall-mounted. For each face of the cube can also be added to a tube, so as to allow the composition of several lamps.

The lamp Route is a comparison, a relationship between two elements, apparently opposite and incompatible. What they have in common is a beam of light, what links them is a fine line.

This project deserves a special mention because although the shape of the lamp is a natural follow-on of the cube and the sphere, as many of the projects assessed, the base is reversed and placed on top, generating curiosity and amazement.
Furthermore, more than others, this design is one of a series of projects dedicated to modular arrangements and the creation of lighting systems; more than this, the ceiling lamp gives us the clear sensation that the lighting elements actually spill out of the ceiling, creating truly amazing scenic effects. – Ettore Fabbian

Light. Expanding. Infinite. To the point. Cornetto.

LOSANGA

This project deserves a special mention because it adds a touch of dynamism, depth and coherence to an interpretation of the natural evolution of square, round and triangular shapes.
Together with the movement it creates, this lamp constantly generates new dynamic shapes by changing their profile continuously, yet never becoming incoherent.
The shape of this lamp also allows the various elements that make up the Losanga family to blend in with each other harmoniously. – Ettore Fabbian

Special-mention-3_LOSANGA_500x250
As a Logical Consequence, the Triangle is the geometric figure that can better complete the Cubetto and Beluga Collections . Here the triangle is repeating twice in order to obtain a LOSANGA (lozenge). the first revolving triangle becomes a cone that contains the illuminating part; the second one becomes a functional fin that favors the grip of the luminaire (In table / floor / appliques versions) and creates visual and material continuity in pendant version.

This project deserves a special mention, because it explores the world of wall lamps, interpreting in quite an original way the function of the glass diffuser; it also allows for a modular installation as shown in the other typologies.

This project deserves a special mention, because it explores the world of wall lamps, with a highly original exploitation of the glass diffuser, which can also be used in the other lamps in the collection.
Its shape and the idea behind the light it emits makes it highly suitable both in the home and in spaces in which architectural lighting is more appropriate, yet without forgetting the important decorative aspect of glass and its unique light diffusing capacity. – Ettore Fabbian

Special-mention-4_Squaring_500x250
This project looking for simplicity and timeless a design that is able to fit in any style and decoration. This modular lighting system is versatile to fit in all point in the space.

    Congratulations to all of them!
    Just two questions:
    1) Why aren’t the special mentions not recorded on the “Awards” page of the contest?
    2) Which are the practical effects of being chosen as “Special Mention”, if there’s just one winner?
Thanks in advance for your attention :)

      Hi Andy,
thanks for your comment. The Special mentions are a special acknowledgment given by the company to some projects for some particular reasons described in their comments. Accordingly, they are not projects winning the contest since the company is not going to produce them as of now. This is also the reason why they have not been included in the Awards on the contest page.
We remind you that the company has still an option right on all projects, which means that they might select and produce also other projects in addition to the award, whether they are special mentions or not.

We remain at your disposal for any enquiry,
      Best Regards
